As a student, I studied gas adsorption under the supervision of Professor Katsumi Kaneko and investigated the possibility of methane hydrate formation in nanopores. After obtaining my doctorate, I spent two years working with Professor Ljubisa R. Radovic at Pennsylvania State University in the United States on the preparation and application of carbon-based catalysts. After returning to Japan, I worked with Professor Sumio Iijima and Dr. Masako Yudasaka the biomedical application and toxicity evaluation of nanocarbons, which is a new research field for me. After joining Kyushu University, I had the opportunity to learn carbon material preparation methods from Professor Isao Mochida and Professor Seong-Ho Yoon. Now, I continue to pursue the creation and application of carbon materials, particularly porous carbon materials, that I learned from my supervisor. At the same time, I am also working on developing pore analysis and characterization techniques. In this way, I enjoy my daily research, aiming to contribute to the advancement of carbon materials science from three perspectives, “fabrication”, “evaluation”, and “application”.
